My name is Niels van der Marel, and I am a 26-year-old programmer from Amsterdam.

I graduated Cum Laude, from the study "international game architecture and design" at BUAS (previously named NHTV), in the summer of 2023.

As a Game Programmer with a diverse set of programming skills and game development experiences, I have a proven track record of collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams. Since September 2022, I have been part of Climax Studios, where I worked on two announced/released AAA projects. Notably, I developed low-level navmesh code within Unreal Engine for 'Mindseye' by Build A Rocket Boy, and served as a gameplay and AI programmer for 'Days Gone Remastered'.

I am eager to learn, agile, and a team player, excited to implement new game systems/ features, and development tools with a focus on maintainable and modular code.

My passion for games first started when I got to play games like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart Double Dash on the GameCube with some of my friends. Later I fell in love with story-based games like Assassin's Creed and the Last of Us. I wanted to be able to make something creative just like that, and this slowly became a reality when I chose my study.

At weekends, I am a Scout leader at my local water scouting club, "Scouting LivingStonegroep". Here I teach children how to sail and work together.
